Building on the traditional Circuit platform, this 30-minute party combines strength and dance moves to help firm your figure, burn calories, and deliver a host of benefits that we bet you never imagined you’d get from shimmying to the beat. How exactly is dance incorporated into the Curves Circuit?
You’ll move around the Circuit as usual, working each machine for one minute, and in between the machines, you’ll do one minute of dancing. All the dance moves are based on a march, but there’s tremendous variety added—salsa, disco, cha cha, hip-hop, swing, and even a little funk.
I’m no Ginger Rogers, can I do this class?
Though these dance moves are variations on a march, you won’t be stepping in place, and you will need to learn a series of movements for each dance. You may be adding a little hip action, throwing in some arm movements, or getting down and getting funky, but anyone can do this class. You will not feel like you have two left feet. And, it’s low impact.
Will these dance moves get my heart pumping?
Intensity is determined by how high up you rise on the balls of your feet and how low you go toward the ground as you dance. The higher and lower you go, the greater the intensity. You determine the effort that’s right for you.
What are the benefits of this class? What will I get out of it that I don’t get from a regular Curves workout?
The Dance and Tone class improves strength, muscle tone, and cardiovascular fitness while it burns calories, just like the traditional Curves circuit. Because dance is a weight-bearing activity, it can strengthen your bones and may help lower your risk for osteoporosis.
But here’s where it gets really cool, dance works your mind as well as your body. It challenges your balance, spatial awareness, coordination, and agility. Because you are learning more intricate movements than you would with most exercises, dance fires up multiple, changing neurological connections between your brain and your muscle. This improves your motor capabilities, the efficiency and effectiveness of movement, but it also builds brain fitness, which can help keep your mind sharp for years to come.
